Irish singer Gavin Friday returns to form with his new album
“catholic” which will be digitally released in North America on May
17th on MB3 Records. Fridays energy and passion, first evidenced as a
founding member of the seminal post-punk band Virgin Prunes, is still
clear for all to see. As indeed is the quality of his song-writing, as
he ably matches his award winning work from earlier forays into the
film world - performing Angel in William Shakespeares Romeo +
Juliet, scoring Jim Sheridans The Boxer, and collaborating with
U2s Bono on the Oscar nominated In The Name of the Father, where
they joined to co-write the song You Made Me Thief of Your Heart as
sung by Sinéad OConnor. Produced by Ken Thomas (Throbbing Gristle,
Cocteau Twins, Sigur Rós), the gorgeously packaged “catholic” CD
(available in August) comes with a 24-page booklet including a 4-page
novella by Patrick McCabe (author of “The Butcher Boy”). Gavin Friday
likens his new album to “waking from a deep sleep, of letting go and
coming to terms with loss”. Somewhere in the middle of all that, there
are slivers of love, contentment and romance. Interested? Sample
